T.H. Bell Community Council Meeting

October 21, 2015    4:00 PM    Office Conference Room

Minutes: 

In attendance:  Julie Thorngren, Mike Waters, Amy Morgan, Karlina Smith, Karen Roylance, Patty Camp, Lenn Ward.  Excused: Mindy Ludlow, and Brooke Winget.

  • Introductions

 Welcome and introduction of members of the School Community Council (SCC) by Chair Julie Thorngren.  

Mike Waters was appointed as Vice Chair.  Moved by Amy Morgan and seconded by Karlinda Smith.  The voting was unanimous.

 

  • Member Contact list / Meeting Schedule

 A motion to approve dates for SCC was moved by Patty Camp, and seconded by Karlinda Smith.  The voting was unanimous.  Dates are January 13, 2016; February 10, 2016; and March 9, 2016.

  • Overview of Community Council Responsibilities

 An overview of the SCC Responsibilities was presented.

  • Overview of last year's plan

 We reviewed last year's plan.

  • Digital Citizenship -- The Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA)

 Mr. Ward discussed Digital Citizenship, which is a state law that students must have training on Internet Safety.  Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), was discussed.  This is a series of 5 lessons which covers examples of cyber bullying.

  • Cone Initiative / Success of School

The Bonneville Cone Initiative was discussed.  From the junior high stand point, we are helping 9th graders to be on track to graduate, and tracking attendance.

  • Friends Hotline

The Friends Hotline was introduced.  It is a hotline that T.H. Bell students can text when they need help with things like bulling, threats, suicides, etc.  The students simply have to text the number on the poster.

Other

Other business was discussed as Mr. Sherman requested to purchase 40 textbooks to have in his room to help in the new Physics of Technology class.  Books would be use to reference certain topics.

Mrs. Anderson has requested a Smart-Music App that goes on our Chromebooks which will help to aide the Choir classes.
