The intermediate art class will be designed to allow students the freedom to express themselves through choice of their own projects. They will be presented with various possible projects. Students will gain more knowledge on top of previous knowledge learned. They will be given the opportunity to explore various artists and be influenced by their favorite artists in their own artwork. Artistic processes of traditional and current art related technologies will keep students excited. They will engage in various art making activities that will help students discover their self-expression, creativity and sense of design. By allowing much freedom, students will create artwork that is meaningful and develop critical thinking skills. This class will provide the opportunity for self-exploration, experimentation and inventive thought process.  ($15.00 fee)

Students in the advanced art class will begin to feel more successful with their artwork.  Students should enter the class with enthusiasm to create their own artwork. They will demonstrate through numerous projects.  They will further investigate visual language which their inventiveness will help them to think deeper about images, self, world, life, design and art. Students will remain energized throughout this class with art activities that are engaging to each individual. Students will be presented with many projects, but will be given the opportunity to choose their projects. The knowledge they will gain from this class will not only prepare them for high school, but will help them to construct new ideas, new ways of thinking and emerge their creativity. Exploring Computer Science is just that – exploring the science behind computers through engaging and accessible topics such as games, activities, and group projects. This course is laid out to help students of all levels of talent and knowledge. It is designed to help students understand why certain tools or languages might be utilized to solve particular problems. The goal of Exploring Computer Science is to develop in students thinking practices of process development, problem solving, critical thinking, and programming within the context of problems that are relevant to the lives of today’s students. This class fulfills high school credit.

This hands-on course will introduce you to the creative world of apparel design and construction.  This class will give you a glimpse into to the exciting global apparel industry and give you skills that can be used to get a job in apparel design.  Students will learn basic sewing techniques, and create fun projects.  Come use your creativity to create items usable in your everyday life. ($15.00 fee)

43210 Foods & Nutrition 1  [1/2]

This course is designed for students who are interested in understanding the principles of nutrition and in maintaining a healthy level of fitness for life. Through hands-on lab experiences, students will learn basic cooking techniques.  Students also have the opportunity to receive their ServSafe Food Handlers Permit (valid for 3 years) to use as they apply for jobs in the future.    ($20.00 fee).

43150   CHILD DEVELOPMENT   [1/2]                   

Do you ever wish you could return to the simpler times of life when gluing macaroni to paper was considered art and playing with toys was the hardest work you did all day?  Then Child Development is the class for you.  Students will explore human growth and development and learn parenting skills.  Students will have the opportunity to care for a Real Care Baby.  This class is one of two pre-requisites for students interested in participating in the Early Childhood Education Lab. ($5.00 fee)

84125   CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY  [1/2]

Construction Technology is an introductory Hands-on course that will focus on residential construction.  Students will gain an understanding of how construction technologies impact politics, the environment, society,and economy. Students will develop a foundation in essential abilities and attitudes that will in turn expand their occupational opportunities in the world of construction. Eye Protection is required. A hands-on course that introduces students to manufacturing technology Students will gain an understanding of how manufacturing technologies impact politics, the environment, society, and the economy. Typically, students are exposed to the manufacturing processes using machinery the first quarter, and the second quarter a product is mass produced. Eye Protection required. ($20.00 fee)

COMMUNICATIONS LANGUAGE ARTS

52110 ENGLISH 9   [1]

Students will work individually and in collaboration to read and write creative and informational texts. This course is required for high school graduation.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE 

35210   SPANISH I  [1]

This is the beginning course in the Spanish language.  Emphasis is placed on learning to speak Spanish along with reading and writing the language.  Language topics include:  introductions and greetings, descriptions of people and your personal surroundings, time, school, culture of Spanish-speaking countries, weather and food.

35211 SPANISH II    [1]

This Spanish II course continues to focus on understanding, speaking, reading and writing basic Spanish, with additional study of grammar concepts such as telling about things that happened in the past.  Much of the vocabulary will center on topics such as sports, vacations, home environment, community, personal entertainment, etc.  Students should have successfully completed Spanish I.

35212 SPANISH III   [1]

This course emphasizes grammar and fluency. This course will be conducted mostly in Spanish. Vocabulary topics will include: Going on a trip, shopping/market, preparing food, ordering at a restaurant, etc...

35230 GERMAN I   [1]

This course focuses on understanding and speaking basic German, with an introduction to the culture of people living in German-speaking countries.  Language topics include:  introductions and greetings, descriptions of people and your personal surroundings, time school, geography of German-speaking countries, weather and food.  This class is very interactive.  Students that participate will be prepared to take German II.

35231 GERMAN II    [1]                                                

This second –year German course continues to focus on understanding, speaking, reading and writing basic German with additional cultural experiences.  Much of the vocabulary will center on topics such as food, shopping, clothing, and home environment, community, celebrations, personal entertainment, etc.  Students should have successfully completed German I

This third-year German course continues to focus on skills learned in German 2 with a new emphasis on communicating in the past and future tenses.  Students will continue to develop proficiency in topics such as traveling, relationships, food, careers, etc. Students will continue to learn about German culture. This course will be conducted mostly in German. Students should have successfully completed German II.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

73110 PARTICIPATION SKILLS&TECH. - A (PE) [1/2]

This is an entry level course that teaches basic skills and physical fitness through team sports, co-educational activities, and individual sports and activities.The primary goal of Physical Education is to develop the student’s knowledge and skills through the participation of a variety of team sports, innovative games and activities. Students in PE will develop lifetime attitudes regarding physical activity and healthy lifestyles. This class focuses on helping each student have a positive attitude, give their best effort every day and come out of class with better self esteem! The movement and fitness curriculum is based on:

1. Demonstrating competency in activity and physical fitness.

2. Deriving satisfaction through fair play, skill development, participation with people of diverse backgrounds.

3. Applying complex thinking through problem-solving skills in activity settings.

73120 PARTICIPATION SKILLS & TECH. - B  [1/2]

This class will be a structured strength training & cardio-respiratory conditioning program.  Monday, Wednesday, Friday would be directed toward strength training using our weight room facilities.  We would chart specific body workouts & strength progression.  Tuesdays and Thursdays would be a variety of cardio-respiratory workouts, flexibility stretching, & nutritional instruction.  This course is recommended for student athletes and/or those that desire body conditioning as an individual activity.  If you are a student athlete, we recommend registering for this class during your sport season.

 The purpose of Secondary Mathematics I is to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in the middle grades. The critical areas deepen and extend understanding of linear relationships by contrasting them with exponential phenomena and by applying linear models to data that exhibit a linear trend. Students will use properties and theorems involving congruent figures to deepen and extend understanding of geometric knowledge from prior grades. 72150 EARTH SYSTEMS [1]

Earth Systems provides an interdisciplinary view of Earth using critical thinking skills, as well as chemistry, physics, and mathematical principals to explore and understand Earth’s place in the universe; relationships between Earth’s atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere; energy transfers in Earth systems; and human interactions with our planet.  Students will investigate current issues as they explore the complex challenges we face as a global community, in addition to learning about advanced technologies that are used to help solve these problems.   This course will offer students a unique perspective on one of fastest growing fields in science.

72160 PHYSICS with TECHNOLOGY [1]         

Physics is the study of motion, force, and energy within various systems. Mathematics is used to describe the different properties of physical objects and is a significant part of the course. It is strongly recommended that you feel comfortable with math taught in 7^th and 8^th grade. The technology portion of the class includes the use of: calculators, digital scales, computer simulations, thermal couples, multimeters, circuit boards, oscilloscopes, etc. Understanding the basic principles of physics will help give you a better appreciation for how the world works, and will have direct application throughout your life. This class covers the basic core for physics allowing you to take AP physics later in high school.  This course will also help prepare you to enter many technical career fields. There is a fee for this class.  $7.00

This course will focus on a study of the interrelationships between our physical and cultural worlds.  It will explore
how geography influences human behavior from the local to the international level.  Cultural, economic, and political
geography factors will be studied.  Regional units of study include: (1) Northern America, (2) Middle America, (3)
South America, (4) Western Europe, (5) Eastern Europe, (6) Sub-Saharan Africa, (7) North Africa and the Middle
East, (8) Central and South Asia, (9) Southeast and East Asia, and if time permits, (10) Oceania.  Studying and
discussing current events will also be emphasized.

This course provides an opportunity for students to develop their musical potential and aesthetic understanding through learning to play the guitar.  Emphasis will be placed on playing position, basic tone production, rhythmic precision and interpretation of musical symbols.  Students should provide their own guitar.  (A very limited number of school-owned instruments will be available upon request.  ($15.00 fee.)

This is a preparatory class designed for students who want to learn how to play a woodwind or brass instrument.  The fundamentals of playing musical instruments will be taught.  Basic music notation and simple tunes will be learned on the instrument.  Woodwind or brass players must take this class or audition before registering for Symphonic Band.  Instruments are available for rent from local music retailers.  Larger instruments may be rented from the school.  The class will present concert repertoire in a variety of styles.  ($15.00 fee)

32237 PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE   [1]

This is a class designed for students who want to learn how to play percussion instruments.  The fundamentals of playing percussion will be taught.  Basic music notation and simple tunes will be learned on the instruments.  Emphasis is on snare and bells.  Percussion kits are used in class and taken home to practice on.  Kits are available from local music retailers.  The class will perform with the other bands as needed as well as present concert repertoire in a variety of styles. Solo performance and ensemble performance are emphasized as well. ($15.00 participation fee and $25 instrument use fee required)

32152   ADV/INTERMEDIATE  BAND [1]      

This class is designed for continuing instrumental music students.  Beginning Band is a prerequisite for this class as well as a teacher signature.  Emphasis is on advanced concert band literature.  Continued training in advanced skills is stressed. Instruments are available for rent from local music retailers.  Larger instruments may be rented from the school. Solo performance and ensemble performance are emphasized as well.  ($15.00 fee)

32250 BEGINNING ORCHESTRA   [1]

This course is open to all students interested in learning to play the violin, viola, cello or string bass.  No previous experience is necessary.  Violins may be rented from local music stores.  Violas and cellos and basses may be rented from the school.  Students learn to read music and produce a

This singing group will participate in several concerts during the year.  Appreciation for many types of music will be emphasized and development of performance skills will be gained.  Vocal technique, sight-reading and music theory will also be taught through three & four part mixed vocal literature. 32137 CHAMBER CHOIR   [1]

This is an audition only, advanced mixed chorus & will be involved in many performances & tours throughout the year.  Here, the choir will concentrate on performing & entertaining skills as well as proper vocal techniques & advanced choral music.  ($15.00 fee)

32136 ADVANCED SSA CHOIR (BELLTONES)   [1]

This is an audition only vocal class for the student who wants to participate in more advanced presentations & music learning areas with three & four-part singing in soprano/alto range.  Many performances are required through the year.  Emphasis will be placed on a cappella singing and sight-singing techniques.  ($15.00 fee)

Drama 1 required.  This class is for advance students of drama.  Students will delve deeper into the principals of acting that were introduced in Drama I.  More memorization will be expected.  Students will perform something about every week.  ($15.00 fee)

Explore how to make a difference and improve lives, while using 3D Printers, Laser Engravers, geographic information systems, and other prototyping equipment. This is a hands on class where students spend most of their time working on projects and solving tomorrow's needs.
