After another stop of South on defense, Bell’s offense took over.  Dixon threw a pass to Jakobie Brown for over 50 yards to put Bell up.  With the 2 point conversion, Bell was up 14 – 0.   Late in the 2nd quarter, the Spartans were moving the ball and had advanced it near their own 20 yard line where they were in striking distance.  It was at this point that South fumbled the ball which was recovered by Jakobie Brown to end the threat.

On offense, Dixon then connected with Jaden Gallegos for a substantial gain.  Bell was advancing the ball, but on a following play a pass from Dixon was tipped and intercepted by a South defender which essentially ended the second quarter.

With the 2nd half, Bell again scored first with slashing Jordan Jacquez evading the South defense from about midfield and down the entire left side of the field for the score.  Bell was now ahead 22- 0.

With that score, play dramatically changed for South as the Spartans starting scratching their way back into the game.  They scored twice within a few minutes of each other on the game clock.  They also converted their two point conversions which made the score now Bell 22 – South 16.

Bell took possession late in the 3rd quarter and started playing a running game using quarterback, Koy Dixon, and running back, Carson Jones, to run time down and advance the ball.  The drive ate up the clock well into the 4th quarter.  With determination, Dixon would advance the ball, and gain 4 or 5 yards.   On the next play, he would hand off to a focused Carson Jones who tight-roped the sidelines in this series to earn the important first down.  Bell scored with about 4 minutes to go in the game on a run by Dixon.  The score was now Bell 28 - South 16.

South answered with a trick play called the “fumblerooski” where the ball is intentionally set on the ground by the quarterback and picked up by another back.  For the Bell defense, this was not discovered until it was too late and the South back ran the ball all the way for a touchdown. This made the score Bell 28 - South 22.

In the end, South got the ball back with about 14 seconds left in the game with about 60 yards to go.   It was at that point that South started advancing the ball with another fumblerooski play as the clock ticked down.  The large crowd on both sides of Thomas Budge field roared with excitement as South made its way toward their end zone.  The final play of the game, ended in an interception by Jaden Gallegos near the South 20 yard marker that left no doubt that T. H. Bell was the district Champion.  The Minutemen ended the season 8-1, and the Spartans were 7-2.  The game ended with the score Bell 28 - South 22.

2018 Champions Hard Work Pays Off"Hard Work - Pays Off" (Courtsey of T.H. Bell's Twitter)

The win was a total team effort.  However, there are always standouts in any game and defensively, Carson Jones, Hayden Morris, and Dee Robins were great at disrupting the South offense.  On offense, kudos to the offensive line - Jeshua Santiago, Hayden Morris, David Weatherspoon, Johnny Luna and Trevan Crandall - which opened up the holes for the running game;   Jaden Gallegos and Jakobie Brown were big in the air attack, and Jordan Jacquez, Carson Jones, and Koy Dixon had big plays on the ground when Bell needed them. Coach Morris said:  “It was a great team win, and a great tribute to all the hard work, commitment and dedication the kids showed.”  As coach says:  “Hard Work – Pays Off”   Check out Bell's trophy showcase!
