2017 Bell Football Season Ends

10/26/17 – Washington Terrace -The Minutemen were dealt their 1st loss of the season this Thursday, as the Wahlquist Eagles upset the T.H. Bell Minutemen 24 to 22 in a semifinal game.  T.H. Bell had remained undeafeated through the regular season and had beat Wahlquist earlier in the season. The playoff game was a hard fought contest.

Wahlquist had Bell on its’ heels early as it was Bell 0 and Wahlquist 16 at the end of the 1st quarter (2 of their points scored with a safety). Wahlquist was moving the ball on Bell early, but three T.H. Bell interceptions in the 1st half nullified the Wahlquist momentum.  Bell came back at the end of the 2nd quarter to make it 8 to 16.

In the 3rd quarter, T.H. Bell scored with 5:23 on the clock, and Bell tied the game 16 to 16. The Minutemen then went ahead scoring a touchdown with 4:16 in the 3rd quarter 22 to 16.  At this point, Bell clearly had all the momentum.

In the 4th quarter, Wahlquist moved the ball down the field and threw a 20+ yard long pass that was caught for an apparent touchdown only to have it called back on a penalty.  Wahlquist tried again and it was caught short of the goal line, but the play was called back on a penalty.  On the third try, the Eagles were able to score making the game 22 to 22 in the 4th quarter.  The Eagles then scored their two point conversion.

There were a couple minutes left in the game and TH Bell had a chance, and had moved the chains.  However, the Eagles defense stiffened up and Bell turned the ball over on downs somewhere near their own 30-35 yard line.  The #4 Wahlquist Eagles then used up the rest of the clock and upset the Minutemen to advance to the championship.

T.H. Bell had a fine season; and the young men at Bell, although disappointed, can still hold their heads high.   The young men of this school represented this school well; and for the 1st time in 22 years, had an undefeated regular season.
